The North Staffordshire Hunt Point-to-Point is a highlight of the area's social and sporting calendar with several thousand attending annually. The event on Easter Saturday is a superb day out for all the family. Dating from 1752 the sport operates under the regulation of the Point-to-Point Authority. Held at the picturesque Sandon Hall Estate near Stafford, point-to-point racing is packed with thrills and spills as horses and riders tackle substantial fences at top speed over a challenging 3-mile course.
Some of the finest horses in the country have begun their careers point-to-pointing and there is always the possibility of seeing a Grand National winner of the future. Professional bookmakers will be on hand to take bets.
The unique layout of the course at Sandon means that all racegoers have a superb view of the course from the grassy banks, which form a natural amphitheatre. Entertainment, both on and off the track, is tailored for all ages with attractions including trade stalls, refreshments, a licensed bar and childrenís funfair rides. Many people choose to take their own picnic to lunch whilst watching the action.
In 2017 the North Staffs Point-to-Point, sponsored this year by UK-Operational Project Support Limited, are very proud to have been chosen to host 3 major national qualifying series.
The Subaru Restricted Point-to-Point Series has a prize fund of £10,000 with 30 qualifiers nationally and a final at Stratford in June. Their sponsorship gives Subaru the perfect opportunity to meet and talk with their customers at the heart of country living. The winner of the Subaru Restricted Championship will be announced at the end of season final. The winning owner will receive the use of a Subaru Forester for one year. Once a horse has been placed (1st, 2nd or 3rd) in a Subaru Restricted qualifier, they begin accumulating points towards the Championship. Points will be awarded depending on the type of race run. Points will be awarded for races run prior to qualification. Full details are available at: www.pointtopoint.co.uk/sponsors/16
Connollyís Red Mills celebrate the tenth anniversary of their sponsorship of the National Intermediate Series culminating in a final at Cheltenham in May. A new major sponsor for 2017 is Skinnerís Pet Foods whose Ladies Open Race Series final will be held at Stratford.
There are a wide range of reserved parking, sponsorship opportunities and hospitality packages on offer, which will guarantee an extra special and great value day out for customers, friends and family. Tickets are available for the Reception and Buffet Luncheon in the Sponsors' Marquee.
This yearís event will be held on Easter Saturday 15th April 2017 at Sandon Estate near Stone. Gates open at 11.00 a.m. and the first race is due at 1.00 p.m. Everyone is welcome and entry is again being held at only £30.00 per car, for 2 or more occupants, or £15.00 for single occupancy. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times.
